There is a grave in Beaufort North Carolina that has a headstone that simply reads Little Girl In Rum Keg. Legend has it that the little girl was taken on a transatlantic voyage by her father to visit family in the Unite Kingdom. The father promised her mother that he would return her safely. She died on the return voyage and instead of burying her at sea the father purchased a keg of rum from the ship's captain in which he preserved the little girl's body to keep the promise of her return to her mother. Children and grown ass people alike leave treasures for the little girl. They are cleared from time to time to make room for more. I have no idea what they do with the old stuff.
Beaufort by the sea. North Carolina. United States of America. Two thousand ten.
